The battery has a good capacity, allowing us to hope that it will be able to successfully cope with the appetites of a voracious high-frequency and multi-core processor.
In general, we can say that the popularity of this solution will depend on its price. Lenovo is not used to abusing the excessive price of its devices, and even after appearing on the market at the beginning of the year, the model managed to drop in price considerably. As of November 2014, you can buy a Lenovo S939 for approximately 3,000 UAH, which is 188 US dollars. This cost for a model with such parameters seems quite reasonable to us.
Description
The Lenovo S939 package package can be called quite good for the price of the device. Carefully and tightly packed in a neat light gray box are the following accessories and instructions:

On the box itself you will not find any additional information about the characteristics of the phone, except for the model name.
In your hands, the Lenovo S939 seems simply huge. Large mobile phones are usually called "shovels", but it is with the six-inch model that you begin to fully understand the meaning of this word. If we compare it with the 5.3-inch or , which we reviewed the other day, the difference of half an inch of diagonal in practice turns out to be very noticeable for the user. It’s simply not very convenient to hold the model with one hand, not to mention any active use, even despite the small thickness of the case. This mobile phone is clearly designed for two hands.
In terms of design, the Lenovo S939 is the usual “black brick” for this manufacturer, neat, convenient, but not memorable. The frames around the sensor are quite wide, but given the overall size of the device, you don’t pay attention to this. Just enough space is allocated below and above the screen to accommodate all interface elements.
Above the display there is a speaker grille, to the right of it is the front camera and then sensors and an event indicator. Below the touchscreen there are three standard touch buttons “Menu”, “Home” and “Back”, brightly highlighted, but, unfortunately, not backlit.
On the right side there is a volume control key and below it is a smartphone power button.
A headphone jack sits alone on top.
The left side of the smartphone is empty.
And at the bottom there is a micro-USB connector.
The back cover is made of plastic that is pleasant to the touch with small notches, thanks to which fingers do not slip on it while using the device. The window of the main camera protrudes somewhat above its surface. There is also a flash LED and a microphone hole on the sides of the camera. The external speaker is located at the bottom of the cover. To prevent it from fitting tightly to the surface, there is a small protrusion in the middle of its grille.
Under the back cover you can see the battery characteristics in Chinese, and also make sure that this mobile phone supports two full-size SIM cards (only one can work in 3G mode), and also has a slot for a micro-SD flash drive.
In the last review, we pointed out flaws in the assembly, which consisted of a loose fit of the back cover. Lenovo S939 is free of these problems, the smartphone is built to perfection. The model does not bend or creak when pressed or twisted, and the battery compartment cover fits into place like a glove.
Screen
The LenovoS939 display has a diagonal of 6", HD resolution 1280x720 pixels and is made using IPS technology. We liked the quality of the resulting image. The viewing angles cannot be called record-breaking, but they are very good. The color rendition is pleasing to the eye. Automatic brightness adjustment is available and works correctly, and there is a reserve of maximum brightness will be quite enough for working with a mobile phone on a sunny day.
It is not clear whether there is an air gap between the touchscreen and the matrix, but the image is really bright, contrasty and makes a very good impression.
The display supports multi-touch for 10 simultaneous touches.
Iron
In Lenovo S939, the manufacturer did not skimp on the fast platform, installing in this model an eight-core MediaTek MTK6592 processor with a frequency of 1.7 GHz. It is even more strange why, with such good CPU characteristics, Lenovo decided to equip this smartphone with only one gigabyte of RAM. After all, where the processor will cope without problems, such a small amount of it can become a bottleneck (primarily we are talking about games, but for some other tasks this can also be important).
In the synthetic Antutu benchmark test, the Lenovo S939 scored an excellent 28,800 points, and there were no performance problems during normal use of the phone. But the clear imbalance between processor power and the amount of RAM is striking.
The Lenovo S939 has 8 GB of memory, of which slightly less than 5 GB is available to the user.
Other options
The sound of the Lenovo S939 can hardly be called outstanding. The volume of the external speaker is at an average level, as is the clarity of the sound. The same applies to the 3.5" audio output when using the included headphones. Perhaps expensive headphones could change the situation somewhat here.
But we were pleased with the quality of the wireless modules. Both Wi-fi and GPS worked without any problems and deserve the best reviews.
Camera
The front camera with a resolution of 1.6 Megapixels is installed in the Lenovo S939 clearly for show, however, it is quite possible to communicate on Skype with its help. But the 8-megapixel main camera module was a pleasant surprise. Despite the not the highest matrix resolution, the Lenovo S939 camera demonstrated very decent quality of both photos and videos. The camera application interface has all the necessary settings to improve the final images, such as light sensitivity, white balance, various “embellishments” and special effects. For its price, the picture from the Lenovo S939 is quite decent, but for serious photography it is still better to buy a separate camera.
When shooting indoors, you can try playing with ISO settings to reduce noise and movement, or use flash.
The maximum video resolution is Full HD1980x1088, there is autofocus, but you cannot select the focus point during shooting.

Firmware
The Lenovo S939 has the Android 4.2.2 firmware with the Lenovo launcher interface, which we have already reviewed many times, installed. This launcher slightly changes the standard appearance of Android, for example, there is no main program menu, which usually appears when you press the central button. But otherwise, everything is logical and familiar; users of other firmware are unlikely to feel any inconvenience when switching to devices from Lenovo.
During all tests, the firmware worked without problems, with one unpleasant exception. Very often, while opening several windows in the browser, it simply closed with an error message. In reviews of this model on forums, we have seen this problem mentioned more than once. Most likely, it can be fixed by updating the firmware, but we still have a small unpleasant aftertaste from such a flaw.
Battery
The LenovoS939 battery is removable and has a capacity of 3000 mAh, which, given such a powerful processor and screen size, seems not at all out of place. Typically, Lenovo firmware is well optimized for energy saving, and the Lenovo S939 was also able to please here: with active use of the Internet, running videos, tests, and the GPS and Wi-fi modules turned on, the smartphone was discharged by barely 15 percent in a couple of hours.
Measurements in the Antutu tester battery benchmark gave a result of 5707 points. With such indicators, there is every chance to hope that even with active use, the smartphone will quietly live all day until the evening, when it needs to be recharged.

Inexpensive smartphones with a screen diagonal of 6 inches are becoming increasingly popular in the world, and Lenovo definitely has something to offer its fans in this segment. The Lenovo S939 phablet we are considering today, although it does not have enough stars in the sky, is a completely noteworthy model with good hardware characteristics and a reasonable price. To be completely happy, she only needs 2 GB of RAM (which can’t be fixed) and more stable browser operation (which can be completely cured).
If you want to buy yourself a large mobile phone without spending too much money, the Lenovo S939 is well worth considering.
